We had the pleasure of planning the wedding for Sarah Meyer and Matt Meyer last November. They were married at the gorgeous Hudson Gardens Event Center in Littleton. Sarah designed her own Save the Dates, Invitations, Menu Cards, Escort Cards and and Thank You cards! They were amazing. We loved her designs. She is so talented. She is now a trusted business partner and is now in our Weekly Vendor Spotlight.
Her fall inspired wedding was beautiful, but the best part of it was the stationary that Sarah herself designed for her own wedding. Sarah has wowed her clients with incredible stationary for their weddings, from save the date to place cards Sarah is truly an expert in her field. So read on for the inside scoop on Sarah and why her business is so successful.
- What is unique about wedding invites, save the dates etc.? How does they contribute to the overall wedding processes and experience?
The wedding invites are essentially the first wedding decision the bride and groom will make during the process of designing the wedding; therefore, everything about the wedding invitation must speak to the couple getting married—the tone of voice in the copy, the font, the color scheme, etc. all are a creative expression of the couple and their relationship, which is one-of-a-kind. The decisions made on the wedding stationery launches and maintains continuity of the wedding theme.
- What impact do the invites have on the rest of the wedding? Why is it important to do them well?
The wedding invite is an important connection between the couple and their guests, just like a logo is for a company and its customers. It is a branding tool, but also an informational tool. A wedding is a very personal event, from the flowers to the vows—the invitation is a sneak peak, almost like a trailer for a movie. The wedding guests should be excited to attend the big day and see that main event.
- How does each invite reflect the style of the wedding?
The style of a wedding is decided by the couple getting married, and so, each decision thereafter—including the invitation—should be consistent with that style. The “style” in question is really just a visual expression of the couple.
- Favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of design is the millions of solutions that can come out of the creative collaboration process. Each bride and groom are truly unique and each one brings new ideas to the table.
- Favorite invites you have made? Why? How can brides be creative and unique with the invites?
Honestly, doing my own wedding invitation last year was my favorite because it was the most challenging piece of design I have ever done. I think brides can be creative by implementing their own and their partners personality and style into the overall look and feel of the invite. The couple should bring aspects such as the destination and theme of their wedding into the invitation design. It is easy and fun to comb through trends on pinterest and other social media sites, but it is essential that the bride and groom’s personalities are reflected in the invitations and on a all printed material related to the wedding, down to the font and style of the printed and or hand-written place cards.
- How did you get involved in this business?
I have been working as a professional graphic designer/art director for over 13 years—providing graphics support for such large companies as Golfweek Magazine, the New York Stock Exchange, Nine West, Anne Klein and Citigroup. Recently, I moved from New York to Colorado—this major lifestyle change gave me the courage to also re-think my career direction. Now, I want to assist couples and families in finding creative answers for those special occasions, like a wedding day and the celebrations surrounding it.
- What’s it like to work in the wedding business versus printing and save the date for other types of events?
Weddings tell the story of two people at one of the most important times in their lives. I like to be a part of the collaboration, and support and enhance their story-line. It’s an exciting time in the couple’s lives and it’s great to see the two individuals make decisions together, as one.
- How would you educate potential clients about the options you offer?
Each couple is unique, so I am open to educate and guide potential clients in whatever way works best for them. I can be as hands-on or as hands-off as they would like, but constant and open communication with my client(s) is always a top priority for me. All services offered are based on client’s direction, we will discuss every option together, and I guide couples through each step of development—from concept design to printing.
- Favorite type/preferred client?
My favorite clients (and people in general) are positive and energetic souls—they are passionate and curious about life and their wedding; they enjoy collaboration and are open-minded and creative in their decision-making process.
- # of years in the business?
I have about 3-4 years experience in the wedding business, but I been a professional graphic artist for 13 years.
- How do you juggle being a business woman and your personal life?
Balancing work and play has never been difficult for me, it is a basic need in my life, so it comes naturally. I constantly surround myself with friends and family who make me smile and push my creative energy into my design business every day. The two can overlap at any time without planning, and I welcome that.
- What do you for fun?
That can be anything from binge-watching TV with my husband to hiking outdoors to visiting art galleries/museums to eating at my favorite restaurant.
- What keeps you sane?
It’s cliché, but my husband keeps me sane most of the time. The rest of the time, I rely on exercise and a tasty glass of wine.
- What would you like people to know about you and your company?
I would like them to know that Designs by Sarah is here to support their event. We will discuss every option together to find beautiful design solutions for the wedding within their budget. I am their personal print design consultant, to guide them through each step of development—design concept to printing—on large projects and/or small ones.
