I had the lovely opportunity to get the inside scoop on the beauty behind the bride on her wedding day. Nominated by The Knot, Best of Weddings 2012, 2013 and 2015 and Wedding Wire, couples’ Choice Award 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, Beauty on Location Studio has and continues to exceed the expectation when it come to hair and makeup on the big day. We have worked with Liz and her team in the past and thought it would be perfect for would be brides to get the scoop.
1.Why beauty on location (rather than in a studio)?
Because we want to pamper our clients at the convenience of their own home, hotel, wedding venue, you name it, we will be there no matter the location or time. The least thing you want to worry about on your wedding day, is driving all over town to get your hair and makeup done. Leave the driving to us.
2.Favorite type of makeup and hair style to do?
We are in love with the Colorado earthy outdoor looks, we love a natural yet defined look, that will be as stunning in person as in camera.
3.What is the most popular style clients ask for? What is the most popular service?
This year we are still seeing braids and the new trend are the high buns. All we offer is makeup application and hair design and they are both very popular.
4.What does a typical “beauty on location” day look like?
We arrive early to set up and start setting our client’s hair in hot rollers while they are all, having fun, listening to their favorite music and having
mimosas. Everyone is always amazing at the wonders professional makeup and hair can do;) It’s a really fun job/industry to be in……different people and location every weekend
5.Favorite part of being a makeup and hair artist?
Least favorite part? Most satisfying part of your job? Seeing our clients happy faces after they look at their hair and makeup looks, we love that we can help them look their very best on their special day. I don’t think I have a least favorite part, I feel blessed to be as busy as we are and we love our clients.
6.What advice would you give to brides when deciding what makeup and hair to pick for their big day?
From our experience here, we’ve learned that Colorado can get all 4 seasons in one day, for that reason, we always suggest to pin your hair out of your face, to ensure you don’t have any hair flying over your face for pictures. As for makeup, we suggest that they do just a little more than their everyday look, this will ensure the makeup shows in pictures, when deciding on their look, we take into consideration, the lighting they will have on the wedding day, their dress and the style they are going for to help them create the perfect look.
7.What does it take to be apart of a successful business? How does the system run smoothly?
I still consider Beauty on Location a growing business, although we’ve created a glowing reputation within the wedding industry here in Colorado, I feel like we are still growing and with that come the growing pains. However, our culture is to always go above and beyond our clients expectations, I’m very careful in who I bring into the team, I look for fun, reliable, responsible, passionate, kind and talented stylists who will represent our values and keep our integrity impeccable.
How does the system run smoothly?
I will have to thank technology and these softwares we have now a days to help us with systems and organizations, but because we are in the wedding/service industry we still like to offer that personable service, I have an amazing assistant who will help me respond emails, phone calls etc.
8.Number of years in the business?
Officially 9, but I started freelancing for other companies since 2005.
9.How do you juggle your social and business life?
Well, it’s not easy but I’m fortunate to have the support of my family, friends and an amazing team of stylists. Without them and their support, Beauty on Location Studio would not be here. I’ve also made many friends in the industry and feel fortunate to be in a business I’m passionate about and does not feel like work. I’ve also learned to manage my time and try my best to be present when I’m with my family or friends which is again really hard as a small business owner, but absolutely necessary to keep me sane.
10.What do you for fun?
I love yoga, running, reading a good book, eating out and enjoying time with my family
11.What would you like people to know about you?
That I feel blessed and thankful with the Colorado community for allowing Beauty on Location Studio to be part of so many amazing brides wedding day. We work hard to bring an unforgettable experience and create beautiful memories of your wedding day from the moment you wake up and start getting ready for it.
We also miss our pretty brides so much that we came up with the idea of opening a storefront in Larimer Square where we hope to see our brides again for any of their future events where they will need professional hair and makeup again, The name of the Beauty Bar will be L Style Bar and we open in August.
